The switch is advertised with a standby current of 3mA, but it is actually 8.4mA while OFF and 13.6mA when ON. This is not inline with the advertised 3mA printed on the label.As a reference, my car has a standby current of 30mA, going to 8mA while OFF is not a superb improvement and while it can in theory last for a long time, if the battery has reduced capacity it will have a shorted life, 3-4 months, for storage you will benefit from a manual cable disconnect, or a manual switch.Now let’s turn it ON, then my standby current goes from 30mA to 43.6mA, which is 45% more current drawn, actually draining the battery faster.If you can live with the current increase, for instance, you got a more angry car, or additional accessories as a remote starter and Android Auto head unit, then the 13mA is a little price to pay. Still, look for other options that may consume less.

Something in my old F-350 is draining one of the batteries, but I don’t have time to invest right now to find the problem. Instead, I threw this battery disconnect on, and I’ve been able to start the old girl without boosting. Other reviewers are talking about the power draw of this little device but, in my application, it’s working as intended and is saving me a lot of headaches right now. The remotes have a reliable range of around 50’, at least in my application. I’m both impressed and pleased with this gadget, and I may consider another one for my daily driver for theft protection.

If you have a battery drain going on, and you’re leaving the car undriven for an extended period of time, this isn’t the right device for that scenario. It *MIGHT* drain more slowly as a result (e.g., if you have an Acura with an inconsistent drain – likely the bluetooth module… pull it and replace it) but generally this is best used for frustrating theft to an extent (obviously, with the battery disconnected, your alarm system will not work). It’s made well and priced inexpensively, so in the right scenario, it’s a great product. Just if you use it for long-term storage, be sure to charge the battery now and again.
